Workshop: In Front of and Behind the Camera with Gordon Below

  • Referent:
  • Aneta Bleyer

A good portrait shows much more than just a face. It conveys personality, charisma, and authenticity. But that is often the greatest challenge in portrait photography: How do you create images that look natural and establish a genuine connection with the viewer?

This workshop is designed specifically for women and focuses on the most important foundation of successful portrait photography—communication. Rather than technique, camera equipment, or elaborate lighting setups, the workshop focuses on confidently guiding people in front of the camera, building trust, and capturing authentic moments.

In a safe and supportive environment, participants experience both sides of the camera. They take photos of each other and are photographed themselves. This fosters an immediate understanding of how language, body language, eye contact, and atmosphere affect the impact of an image. This shift in perspective helps participants photograph people more consciously, empathetically, and authentically in the future.

Another focus is on the interplay between self-perception and how one is perceived by others. Together, we explore how to create portraits that not only please the subject but also evoke an emotional response in the viewer.

With over 30 years of experience in portrait photography, Gordon Below guides participants through practical exercises, portrait sessions, and group image reviews. In the process, he shares insights from his professional work with people and demonstrates how honest communication leads to more powerful images.

This workshop is designed for female photographers who want to capture people more authentically, gain more confidence in working with subjects in front of the camera, and understand how to create natural and impactful portraits—regardless of technique or having the perfect equipment.

🎟 The workshop price already includes the complete weekend ticket for Imaging World 2026 – including access to the photo fair, stage program and playgrounds.

About Gordon Below

The workshop will be led by Gordon Below, who, as a photographer, photography instructor, and longtime studio owner, has been working with people in front of the camera for over 30 years. His perspective as a male photographer adds an extra dimension to the discussion: How is a portrait interpreted? What comes across as strong, what as soft, and what as authentic? And how do you create an image in which the subject can see themselves reflected?
