End-of-Day Portraits with Available Light – Creative Looks with Gordon Below

Strong characters, rugged settings, and an atmosphere straight out of a dystopian movie—in this workshop, you’ll create extraordinary portraits with a cinematic feel. The focus isn’t on traditional portrait photography, but on expressive characters who tell stories and make an impact through their presence.

Four Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic actors offer participants the opportunity to photograph extraordinary individual portraits and duo scenes. Together, they create images full of suspense, atmosphere, and cinematic depth. It’s not just about the costumes—it’s about bringing believable characters and their stories to life through photography.

A special focus is placed on the deliberate use of available light. Instead of elaborate lighting equipment, the course makes use of available light as well as simple tools such as small LEDs, flashlights, or reflectors. Participants learn to use light strategically to create mood, contrast, and visual impact. Shadows, reflections, and controlled darkness become important tools for crafting an authentic end-of-the-world atmosphere.

In addition, the workshop teaches participants how to creatively incorporate existing environments into their compositions. Together, participants will develop different scenarios, experiment with perspectives, and bring their visual ideas to life. There will be plenty of room for participants to explore their own creative approaches and develop their own unique compositions.

Drawing on his many years of experience as a photographer, photography instructor, and coach, Gordon Below guides participants through the entire workshop and provides practical advice on how to achieve maximum visual impact with minimal equipment.

This workshop is designed for beginners and intermediate photographers with a basic understanding of camera operation who want to make their portrait photography more atmospheric, emotional, and cinematic. If you want to photograph characters rather than costumes and create powerful images with genuine presence, you’ll find the ideal creative playground here.

🎟 The workshop price already includes the complete weekend ticket for Imaging World 2026 – including access to the photo fair, stage program and playgrounds.
