Authentic portraits are not created in retouching, but through light, perspective and photographic understanding. This workshop is about the conscious combination of portrait photography and printing. Together, the participants will work out how to use continuous light, targeted lighting and a clear photographic idea to create portraits that look real, show people to their best advantage and are convincing from the moment they are taken. The subsequent look at the print sharpens the understanding of quality, effect and photographic precision.
The special added value of the workshop lies in the fact that set-ups are not simply recreated, but a resilient understanding of light is created. Continuous light makes visible what light really does – and this is precisely what makes learning more direct, more comprehensible and more sustainable. If you want to take better portraits, you don’t need more effects, but a better understanding of form, direction, shadow, effect and reduction.
Learning from Martin Krolop means drawing on many years of workshop experience and a highly practical approach to lighting. According to his official workshop page, he has been giving photo workshops for over ten years with the aim of passing on his experience to participants in such a way that they don’t have to make typical mistakes themselves. His workshop and lighting content also clearly shows a focus on understandable, targeted and effective lighting in the portrait sector.
During the workshop, we will put the things we have learned and shown into practice directly with a model on location.
What you will learn in the workshop
- How to use continuous light specifically for portraits
- How light shapes faces and influences image effects
- How to create stronger portraits with reduction
- How to consciously control and understand lighting
- How to create authentic and natural portraits
- How high-quality images convince right from the start
In the practical part of the workshop, you will implement the techniques shown directly with a model. Step by step, you will learn to perceive light more consciously and use it specifically for emotional portraits. In addition, looking at the print will sharpen your understanding of image quality, effect and photographic precision.
Your goal after the workshop
At the end of the workshop, you will have a much better understanding of light and will be able to create authentic portraits with a clear image effect and professional lighting.
