The magic of REAL portrait photography Workshop with Martin Krolop and Julia Schwegmann

Authentic portraits aren’t created through retouching, but through light, the subject’s gaze, and a deep understanding of photography. This workshop focuses on the deliberate combination of  Portrait Photography and Printing. Together, the participants work out how to deal with Continuous light, more targeted lighting With a clear photographic vision, portraits are created that look authentic, show people in their best light, and are compelling even as they’re being taken. Looking at the print afterward deepens one’s understanding of quality, impact, and photographic precision.

The special added value of the workshop lies in the fact that set-ups are not simply recreated, but a resilient understanding of light is created. Continuous light makes visible what light really does – and this is precisely what makes learning more direct, more comprehensible and more sustainable. If you want to take better portraits, you don’t need more effects, but a better understanding of form, direction, shadow, effect and reduction.

Learning from Martin Krolop means drawing on many years of workshop experience and a highly practical approach to lighting. According to his official workshop page, he has been giving photo workshops for over ten years with the aim of passing on his experience to participants in such a way that they don’t have to make typical mistakes themselves. His workshop and lighting content also clearly shows a focus on understandable, targeted and effective lighting in the portrait sector.

During the workshop, we will put the things we have learned and shown into practice directly with a model on location.

🎟 The workshop fee already includes a full weekend ticket for Imaging World 2026—including access to the photo expo, stage program, and Playgrounds.
