Black and white portraits thrive on light, expression and small details. In this workshop, Thomas Adorff will show you how to create portraits with depth and atmosphere using targeted lighting, conscious image composition and the interplay of contrasts.
What you will learn in the workshop
- How to use light and shadow specifically for black and white portraits
- How contrasts, structures and details enhance the image effect
- How to work creatively with available light and studio flash
- How different focal lengths change the effect of a portrait
- How macro lenses make exciting portrait details visible
- How expression, perspective and composition create emotional images
Together with a model, you will realize different portrait situations directly in the studio and experiment with light, perspective and image effect – from classic portraits to detailed close-ups.

Thomas Adorff is a professional photographer with a diverse portfolio of portrait, concert, band and advertising photography. His work is characterized by creative lighting, strong image ideas and precise technical implementation.
He particularly enjoys working with people in front of the camera and imparts his extensive knowledge in a practical, passionate and entertaining way. His focus is on creative concepts, authentic portraits and targeted work with natural and artificial light.
