The most exciting subjects are often closer than we think. Right on your doorstep lies a world full of details, textures, and stories—so small that we usually overlook them in our daily lives. But if you look more closely, you’ll discover a fascinating setting for creative photography.
In this workshop, nature photographer and biologist Daniel Spohn takes you into this very microcosm. You’ll learn to see seemingly unremarkable subjects in a new light—and transform them into expressive, vibrant images. Because great macro photography doesn’t start with expensive equipment, but with a trained eye.
Daniel will show you, through practical examples, when and where to find the best subjects, how to make strategic use of light, perspective, and background, and why planning is often the key to capturing that special shot. You’ll gain insight into his photographic approach and understand how observation, patience, and a clear vision come together to create stunning images.
It’s not just about technique, but about a holistic understanding of nature photography: How does the season influence your subjects? When is it really worth getting up early? And how can you significantly increase your success rate using simple methods?
After the theoretical portion, we’ll get down to business: Together, we’ll head out into the natural surroundings of Silbersee. Here, you’ll put what you’ve learned into practice, discover new subjects, and develop your own photographic concepts under guidance—an intensive hands-on session that makes this workshop particularly valuable.
This workshop is an invitation to see your surroundings with fresh eyes—and to realize that extraordinary images often emerge right before your eyes.
Here’s what you can expect:
- New Perspectives on Motifs in One’s Own Environment
- Practical Strategies for Finding Subjects, Planning, and Composing Images
- Creative Use of Light, Background, and Bokeh
- Directly applying what you’ve learned during the outdoor practical session
- Many practical tips from the world of photography
