BW stories à la Lindbergh Emotional black and white photography with Guido Rottmann

fast ausgebucht

Hardly any other photographer has shaped modern black-and-white photography as much as Peter Lindbergh. His images draw their power not from perfection, but from atmosphere, personality, and the quiet moments between the grand gestures. Blurred contours, minimalist lighting, seemingly random moments—and that is precisely where their extraordinary power lies.

In this workshop, we’ll focus on this unique visual language. Together with Guido Rottmann, participants will discover how to create emotional portraits that convey more than just a beautiful face. The workshop centers on authenticity, atmosphere, and the conscious use of light and people.

To begin with, we analyze Lindbergh’s distinctive approach using selected examples of his work. It quickly becomes clear that the impact of his photographs often stems from reduction. Rather than elaborate staging, what matters most are emotion, expression, and a precise eye for light.

Then we’ll move straight into a practical session. Together, we’ll explore various locations on the exhibition grounds and learn how to purposefully use and shape available light. Using simple tools such as reflectors and diffusers, we’ll create intense low-key shots with precisely the cinematic depth for which Lindbergh became famous.

Another focus of the workshop is working with the model. How do you create a relaxed atmosphere in front of the camera? How do you combine natural poses with genuine authenticity? Guido Rottmann offers practical insights into his approach and demonstrates how to create emotional portraits that move people rather than merely depicting them.

This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to make their portrait photography more emotional, minimalist, and expressive—inspired by the style of one of the greatest photographers of our time, with plenty of room for your own ideas and creative work.

🎟 The workshop fee already includes a full weekend ticket for Imaging World 2026—including access to the photo expo, stage program, and Playgrounds.
