Light is the basis of all photography. In this seminar, Daniel Spohn will show you how to consciously perceive light and use it in a targeted manner to create mood, depth and expression in your images – in a practical, understandable and directly applicable way.
Photography does not begin with the camera. It begins with light.
It forms structures, directs the eye, determines mood and depth. It can make a subject glow or deliberately make it disappear into the shadows. And it is often precisely this subtle interplay of light and darkness that makes the difference between a good picture – and one that is truly moving.
In this seminar, you will immerse yourself in the language of light together with nature and travel photographer Daniel Spohn. You will learn not only to see light, but to understand it – and to use it specifically for your image composition. Because if you can read light, you will take more conscious, more precise and ultimately better photographs.
It’s not about dry theory, but about a practical understanding: How does the direction of the light change your subject? When does light have a soft and flattering effect – and when does it have a hard and structure-emphasizing effect? And how can you actively intervene in the light distribution to realize your image idea in the shot?
You will learn why our eyes often perceive more than the camera sensor – and how you can specifically compensate for this discrepancy. Topics such as dynamic range, subject contrast and exposure are taught in an understandable and directly applicable way. At the same time, Daniel explains how you can consciously control light using simple means – from diffusers and reflectors to the targeted use of flash.
What you will learn in the seminar
- A deep understanding of light quality, direction and effect
- Practical approaches to the targeted control of light in images
- Solutions for typical exposure problems and high contrasts
- Clarity in dealing with natural and artificial light
- A new, conscious approach to photography
Your goal after the seminar
This seminar fundamentally changes the way you look at photography: away from pure “depiction” and towards active creation with light. You will learn to read situations, make conscious decisions – and realize your motifs exactly as you perceive them.
