Kingfisher photography requires patience, observation and a deep understanding of nature and behavior. In this seminar, Daniel Spohn will show you how to photograph kingfishers respectfully, recognize suitable habitats and, with the right preparation, take impressive pictures in the wild.
A soft splash. Circles on the surface of the water. Silence.
And then – nothing. Or is it?
Anyone who has ever tried to photograph a kingfisher knows exactly this moment. This waiting. This doubt. And that brief, magical second in which a blue flash shoots through the picture – often faster than your finger is on the shutter release.
The kingfisher is not a motif that you simply “do”. It is a motif that you work for.
In this seminar, nature photographer and biologist Daniel Spohn will take you into the fascinating world of one of the most spectacular native birds. You will learn not only to see the kingfisher, but to understand it – its habitat, its behavior and the decisive moments that make a good picture possible in the first place.
Because successful kingfisher photography begins long before the first photo is taken. It starts with the right preparation: Where is it worth looking? Which structures in the habitat are crucial? And how do you approach your subject without disturbing it?
Daniel shows you step by step how to turn chance encounters into predictable situations. You’ll learn which equipment is really useful (and why it doesn’t always have to be the largest telephoto lens), which camera settings will help you capture the decisive moments – and how to avoid typical mistakes.
A special focus is placed on practice: hide photography, camouflage, lighting and location selection. You will learn how to specifically increase your image yield by using natural behaviors and adjusting your setup accordingly. At the same time, you will gain important insights into the respectful treatment of wild animals and the legal framework for nature conservation.
What you will learn in the seminar
- A deep understanding of the habitat and behavior of the kingfisher
- Practical strategies for planning, hunting and site selection
- Clarity in equipment and camera settings
- Tips for a better hit rate in wildlife photography
- Raising awareness for respectful treatment of nature and animals
Your goal after the seminar
This seminar is more than just a guide to bird photography. It is an introduction to an intensive, almost meditative form of photography – characterized by patience, observation and a deep understanding of your subject.
And once you’ve taken your first really successful kingfisher photo, you’ll understand why many photographers can’t get away from it.
