Light is the central design element in photography – and often it takes nothing more than the available daylight to create expressive portraits. In this workshop, Thomas Adorff shows how natural light can be used effectively and specifically to achieve impressive results – without any additional equipment.
Together we will go on a photographic discovery tour around the Nuremberg exhibition grounds and the NCC West. The focus is on the conscious use of surroundings, architecture and light. They will learn how to recognize lighting conditions, use them in a targeted manner and influence the effect of the images with composition, perspective and the right focal length. Whether wide-angle integration of the surroundings, natural portraits with a normal focal length or creative depth with a telephoto lens – practical examples are used to show how the effect of the image can be specifically controlled.
Special attention is paid to understanding changes in light over the course of the day, the use of shadows, reflections and contrasts as well as the fine-tuning between model and location. The aim of the workshop is to develop a sure instinct for working with natural light – and to consciously integrate the surroundings into the image composition.
A model will be available for the exercises during the workshop.

Thomas Adorff is a professional photographer and specialist in portrait and concert photography. His portfolio ranges from on-location shoots to studio work and advertising campaigns. He masters the use of natural light as well as the precise use of flash technology – and imparts his knowledge in workshops with passion, clarity and many years of practical experience.
