Black and white portraits have a special visual language: they focus on shapes, contrasts and expression – without the distraction of color. In this workshop, Thomas Adorff shows how to create atmospheric portraits with available light and how to create new levels of depth and character through the targeted use of studio flash.
The focus is on lighting, image composition and the deliberate use of contrasts. Together we work on the effect of light and shadow, on clear compositions and creative perspectives. A particular focus is on the use of different focal lengths – including macro lenses, which enable fascinating detail shots, especially in portrait photography. Skin structures, eyes or hands are thus given their very own narrative power.
The aim is to use the expressive power of black and white photography in a targeted manner and to create expressive, timeless images with a personal signature. A model is available for the duration of the workshop.

Thomas Adorff is a professional photographer specializing in portrait, concert and advertising photography. He combines his technical skills with a keen sense of visual impact and atmosphere. In his workshops, he imparts his knowledge in a well-founded, practical manner and with a great deal of experience from everyday professional life.
