Photo law – the big course

Person in suit covers camera with hand - symbolic image for right to one's own image and photo right

Are you actually allowed to photograph everything you see? And what about publication? Anyone who regularly travels with a camera – whether professionally or privately – should know the legal framework.

In this seminar, Wolfgang Rau provides a practical overview of the most important aspects of photography law. He is a lawyer, specialist in this field, author and president of the German Association for Photography. From practice for practice, he will explain the legal principles that must be observed when taking photographs – from personal rights to the right to the premises to the publication of images.

The seminar is aimed at anyone who works with photography or is more intensively involved with it – regardless of their level of experience. The aim is to be legally compliant and avoid unpleasant surprises.

The seminar is roughly divided into the following sections:

  • Basic introduction and definition of copyright law
    • the creation of a copyright
    • What rights does the author have
    • Meaning of the copyright symbol
    • Claims for damages and their enforcement
  • Problem areas in subject photography
    • copyrighted works
    • Domestic authority
    • Design protection
    • Legal bans on photography
    • Freedom of panorama
  • Basic rules and behavior in people photography
    • Production of photos
    • Consent and revocation
    • Recognizability of a person
    • Publication of photos
    • Exceptions according to the Art Copyright Act (KUG)
  • The GDPR in the light of people photography
    • Prohibition standard with exceptions
    • Contract
    • Rectified interest
    • Consent
    • Notification obligations
  • Specialty street photography

Of course, there will also be enough time in this seminar to answer your questions.
